Challenging Yoda

“Do or do not. There is no try”

Memorable and go-getting words delivered decisively from a Jedi master.

Here, we are either all in or… do not bother showing up.

Yoda’s expression does not reduce the act of trying.

It obliterates it.

When the art of trying is no longer an option, a beautiful opportunity is lost:

A heedful first step…

That cautiously attempts to break an old pattern…

To create a new one…

That flexes the exact same muscle used in the act of doing, but surrounded with softer edges.

To try contains every opportunity to align with a greater force as much as going all in.

But, if we try, maybe we will try more things. With an open mind. And a calmer spirit.

Challenging Yoda is not a bad way to approach planning for a new year. Nor a new decade.

With gratitude,

-Joe
