Errors And Corrections
To create is a process of imperfection.
A practice of imperfection opens space for improvement.
When we attach our name to an idea and ship it into the world, the opportunity to do better appears.
With close proximity to my own writing, I currently experience the limitations of self-editing. There is the occasional mistake — a missing word, misspelling, or subject/verb disagreement. I caught a few of these mistakes recently. So did a few of you.
A mistake left to its own devices only knows a single direction — that is to grow bigger.
Human intervention can change this course.
Through acknowledgement, correction, or letting go, deliberately and consistently engaging with our mistakes profoundly alters how we move along our path. Or may reveal a new path in which to begin.
While outside editing could be a part of my future writing, today finds me at a moment where the occasional mistake is a worthwhile trade for a more direct connection to my true voice.
Of course, this applies to much more than writing and other creative endeavors.
As the world slows down a little bit this week, many will gravitate toward some form of introspection. Such moments provoke thoughts of course correction. Here, we consider what to exchange for the gift of communicating in our own true voice.
With gratitude,
-Joe
