In Pursuit Of Humanity
A simple truth about us:
We can accomplish many things when we are feeling less than 100%.
We can and have done this even when we are far from 100%.
But, the nature of the world is to show that we are not anything less than 100%.
To admit this feels risky. We may appear weak. Or vulnerable.
Perhaps there is a better, stronger, or more together robot ready to step in and get things done.
Why a robot?
A non-human does not have to worry about imperfections, fears, doubts, or the chances that life may be different tomorrow than it was today.
But, a human is built on such imperfections, fears, doubts, and moment-to-moment changes.
For the time being, as long as we intend to experience this life as humans, perhaps creating more effective and honest ways that reveal our humanity is not such a bad idea.
It is a challenging step to feel safe enough to say that our traffic lights are red, and not always green — to trust our communities enough to say that we are not at the top of our game.
And our work will still be accomplished.
With a little more humanity.
And as always, with gratitude,
-Joe
