Thresholds Of Innovation

Daily, we are told that so much change is happening in the world. We know change is happening. We no longer have to be told that disruption is a thing.

Technology and innovation are everywhere. In almost all aspects of our lives.

These innovative experiences most certainly can usher in unexpected thresholds.

Typically there are two ways that we deal with the next genesis of uncertainty:

We chase the new and see it as a *get it before someone else does* opportunity — a shiny object to grab first.

Or we can hide, faced with dread and exhausted by the idea of it all.

But, there is a third approach to engage with such challenges — especially when these conundrums are complex and seem to arrive one after another. It’s to take the simple path and assert our timeless attributes and soft skills of:

  • gratitude for the arrival of fresh ideas
  • patience with a yet-to-be solved puzzle
  • self-awareness and implementation of our own intelligence and learned skillsets

Here, we mindfully consider the situation and then we activate a practiced response.

Our ongoing relationship with disruption should not be viewed as a conquest — nor as a situation from which you hide. Instead it is an opportunity for simple, skilled practice.

To act, every day, from a place of gratitude, patience, and self-awareness prepares you to respond skillfully to the unexpected and create change in yourself.

As you cross a threshold, keep your steps simple.

With gratitude,

Joe
